ENEveryone has the same symptoms: dizzy, sitting in front of the computer too, feeling the house move, swaying back and forth. At first I thought something was wrong with me because I just drank coffee. Got up from the computer, sat on the bed, called my kids, told them earthquake, truly scary.

I grew up in Southern California, and I can fully understand how terrifying a strong earthquake can be for someone who has never experienced one. The worst is over after the first big one, so life must continue. There is no use living in fear of the next one!

The new era codos have to be like rubber. Think of it this way: A Plastic or Wood ruler, which is more durable when facing high pressure? With the wooden one, you wouldn't notice anything until it broke. So, many cracks many good!

ENTake care of yourself, Brother Mike. I've lived in Bangkok for 38 years, first time experiencing this. Lucky I live in a 2-story house, not a condo. Take care.

ENOld buildings are strong. The building at home is strong too. But the new buildings built these days collapse easily, different from ones built by older generations, which are stronger.

BE ACCURATE. NO EARTHQUAKE IN THAILAND AND BANGKOK. The earthquake was in Myanmar, at a point 1,100 Km away from Bangkok. Thailand and Bangkok just absorbed the aftermath severe shock effects or tremors. This is the worst one of Myanmar for the last 100 years. That's why the e…

ENPeople are overreacting. The building that collapsed was under construction. How many tens of thousands of buildings in Thailand collapsed? Thai buildings are very strong. Old buildings took a long time to build, but new buildings are built quickly.

ENHello admin, Khun Nam Pla. This was a new, severe event that we have never faced before with the current state of the city. It was chaos, like people drunk and out of control. We were completely dazed. But one thing I noticed in Bangkok and big cities is that people helped each other after they came to their senses, regardless of nationality. We are sorry for our neighbor "Myanmar", which was hit harder with many casualties. But anyway? We Thai people, I hope everyone, regardless of nationality, is safe. This is truly a new experience for Thailand. 🥵🙏 For the unfinished high-rise building in Thailand that collapsed, analyzing the root cause makes us look back and reflect on engineering construction standards. Roughly as follows: - Thai construction standards, set by the Engineering Institute of Thailand, were updated in 2012 (13 years ago) to design for earthquakes of 6.5-7.5 magnitude, especially for foundations and building structures, or even bridges, roads, railways (all construction requiring foundations). So, when the earthquake happened the other day, there was almost no damage. Some old condo buildings might have minor damage, but since before the earthquake prevention standards were updated, most buildings were already built to Japanese and American standards. Some weren't that tall, maybe just 10-20 floors, so there was minor damage. The difference is that old condos were big, so one unit would give you a 40-50 square meter room, so the foundation was big accordingly. But modern condos are multi-purpose, with lots of common areas, while room sizes are flexible, from 22 square meters and up, mixed with various sizes. The foundations and main building structures are already strong and flexible according to design standards, but there will be some damage to ceilings, tiled walkways, and prefabricated wall panels, which are not hard to repair. *But for the building that collapsed, there are many suspicious points. The company that got the contract was hit by the COVID-19 crisis, had negative financial results for years, and was heavily impacted by spending tens of billions on the Dawei deep-sea port project in Myanmar. As known, Myanmar had a coup and canceled many concession projects, including the Dawei port and industrial estate. This caused this construction company, one of Thailand's top 3 giants, damage. Various construction projects in Thailand were delayed, like dual-track railways, high-speed trains, water diversion tunnels, roads, and motorways. When they couldn't deliver on time, costs increased with higher interest rates. So they had to raise capital and partner with a Chinese construction company to get some funding. That company is a subsidiary with a major Chinese state-owned enterprise as a major shareholder. But during construction, it was the COVID-19 period, and China faced a real estate crisis, causing companies there to have liquidity problems too. So there are suspicions that the Thai company, which partnered with the Chinese company, may have lowered specifications or used construction techniques outside Thai standards controlled by the Engineering Institute, because that company is one of Thailand's top-tier firms, and the Chinese partner was backed by a Chinese state enterprise, so the bidding review wasn't strict. When the company wanted the job, they had to offer lower prices than competitors, but their finances were tight, so they had to cut costs somewhere. Then a real earthquake hit while construction wasn't finished, so there was no inspection yet, and it collapsed. 😂😂😂 We're waiting for the truth to be proven by engineering. What will happen?

I am a Chiang Mai resident. I’ve got to say the Chiang Rai Earthquake in 2014 was a lot worse as the epicenter is within Thailand with a magnitude of 6.2. The shook was high in frequency so it felt so strong for low-rise buildings. However, because of the high frequency, it didn'…

All the condo in Bangkok prepare for the earth quake at 7-7.5 richter. That's enough but in this case , it's the worst earth quake ever in Myanmar at 7.7 richter in 100 years.
